2. Salalah International Airport
It facilitates the air needs of Salalah city which is about 5 km from the airport. Commenced in 1977 it attended only domestic flights from Muscat. Later in 2003, it was branded as an International airport. With the transformation process initiating in 2011, it has now a state-of-the-art airport in Oman. This airport is situated in the Duqm seaport in the Al-Wusta region of Oman. It was opened publicly in July 2014. This airport in Oman lies about 10 km northwest to the city of Sohar. Inaugurated by the Transport and Communication minister Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim Al Futaisi, it initiated its operations on November 2014. Spread over an area of 5600 square metres it can handle half a million passengers annually. The asphalt runway stretches 4km in length and 75m in width. Additionally, there are 4 boarding bridges and 7 booths. It is a gateway to the northern part of Oman.
