1. Cherrapunji

Hiking is the best way to explore the rich and verdant surroundings, and Cherrapunji has plenty of that to offer. Walk on the double decker living root bridge, a technique perfected over hundreds of years whereby living roots of trees have been converted into bridges, or witness the stunning Nohkalikai falls. 2. Kodaikanal
Commonly referred to as the “Princess of Hill Stations”, Kodaikanal has always been a thriving tourist destination. Due to its altitude, the city remains cool throughout the year and the monsoon season is very rainy and misty. Pillar Rocks is a popular tourist attraction. The chilly weather and the floating clouds make it a picturesque sight indeed and is a must visit. Put your hiking boots on and trek up to Dolphin’s Nose which offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding plains away from the swarming crowds.

3. Diphu
Located in the lush, forested area of Assam, Diphu will appeal to any traveller seeking peace and solace away from concrete jungles. Take a stroll through the Botanical Gardens, host to a myriad variety of plants and trees. Calm your senses and take in the sights and sounds of chirping birds and blossoming flowers in a rainbow of colors. If you’re in the mood to see something different, visit the Taralangso Cultural Centre and watch locals engage in various performing arts that reflect the culture of the land.

4. Araku Valley
Away from all the commercial tourist holiday destinations, Araku Valley has much to offer, and is most popular with travellers who prefer something a little offbeat. You can choose from a variety of things to see such as the Borra caves famous for its stalagmites and stalactites. Around 4 km away from the caves are the Katiki waterfalls known for their natural beauty. Choose a picnic spot and witness nature at its best during the monsoons.

5. Ladakh
Towering mountains, brilliant blue skies and arid desert as far as the eye can see, Ladakh is as magnificent in its entirety. Being in a rain shadow region, Ladakh receives most of its water from snow fall and is hence relatively dry in the rainy season. You will be greeted with the awe-inspiring sight of thousands of flowers in full bloom that will most likely rival anything you’ve seen before. A challenging 15 km hike is one of the few ways to get there, so you might want to bring appropriate gear.
