Karol Tibba is the highest peak of the town of Solan with an altitude of 2240 m. Along the trek, you would get to see the panoramic and scenic views of Solan. At the peak, there's a temple dedicated to Goddess Kali from where panoramic views of Shimla and Churdhar peak can be seen. Chambaghat is the starting point of the trek and can be reached by road from Shimla. The trail leads through grasslands, forest cover and even the Pandava Cave.

Shali Tibba hill is located in Khatnol village which is 35 km from Shimla. Shali Tibba also famously offers a 360° view from the peak of Kufri, Fagu, Shimla and Narkanda Hills. The trek trail winds through cedar and pine forest cover and walks you through small villages. The altitude of Shali Tibba is 2873 m, and forests cover the trail. The mountain peak has a temple dedicated to Goddess Bhimakali which is revered by the locals. Camping at Khatnol village through this trek is also a recommended option for a more wholesome experience.

The trail to the Tara Devi hill is one which is narrow and mostly steep. The top of the temple offers breathtaking views of Shimla, Chail and Kasauli. The path goes through the majestically tall deodar and pine trees. One might also be able to sight some monkeys on trek. On Sundays, one can stop over to have langar at the temple. The starting point to the trek can be reached by taking the toy train from Shimla making it a fun experience.

Jakhoo Hill is the highest hill in Shimla with the height of 2500 m. There is an old temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman at the top of the mountain. You can easily sight several monkeys around. Be careful as they may snatch your goggles, camera, food, etc. The trek is quite steep and tiring, and you would have to walk through dense pine forests. It would take about an hour to reach the peak, depending upon the pace. Walking sticks can be bought at the base of the hill.

The trek to Hatu peak is a scenic trek which reminds one of a Himalayan nature. While the trek distance is short and the trek quite easy, the many tourist sites make up for it. The trek starts from Narkanda, which is 63 km away from Shimla and ends at Hatu Mata Temple that is perched upon the top of the hill, making a fitting finale to the trek. For a more immersive experience, trekkers can camp for the night near the peak.

Naldehra is a small hill station which is 24 km from Shimla. Naldehra is famous for its Gold Course which is at an altitude of 2045 m. The British Viceroy Lord Curzon set the golf course there as he had been highly impressed by the natural beauty of the place. This trail through pine and deodar trees is like a long leisurely walk for 3 hours or a horse ride. Due to the easy nature of the trek, younger kids and some elderly might also be taken along.

Chharabra is a small village about 13 km from Shimla at an altitude of 2514 m and is surrounded by pine trees. There are three treks you can take from Chharabra. One to Kufri Cantonment, one to Mashobra and one to Dhalli. All the three routes offer scenic beauty of the thick forests, pine trees and fruit orchards.

The three ancient wooden temples of Dhanu Devta have somehow been left neglected. But if in Shimla, you can take this short trail from Mall Road to this scenic location of the temples towards the village Kalyana. Start walking from the Mall road and take the Shimla bypass road via Central Potato Research Institute. You’ll be able to find these temples while going downhill.

Located at about 7 km from Shimla, Chadwick falls would be the perfect spot for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts. The trail is a leisurely 1-2 hour walk from Boileauganj. You can go to Potterhill via Summerhill chowk, or you can go to Dharkuffar via Chaili. Both roads meet at the same point. If you go in September, after the monsoons, you’ll get to see the cascades sparkling clean. The altitude of Chadwick falls is 1586 m.

It is believed that Goddess Kali fulfils all the desires of the devotees who climb up the hill and offer prayers at the Kamna Devi Temple. Rana of Junga built this temple. From the altitude of 2150 m, you would get to see spectacular views of Solan, Old Shimla and other hamlets around the hill station. This temple is accessible from Boileauganj via Shimla-Bilaspur road. The trail is picturesque with valleys and meadows all around.
