1. Chamarel Waterfall

Located inside the famous Chamarel seven coloured earth, Chamarel Waterfalls is one of the highest waterfalls in Mauritius with a height of 100 metres, almost the same as the famous Statue of Liberty. The waterfall is formed by Saint-Denis, La Crete and Cascade Chamarel rivers merging at a point. The base of the falls forms a shallow pool which is ideal for swimming. Enjoy the best view of the waterfall from the village's Seven Coloured Earth upper deck reserve or follow the trail of water coming from the bottom of the falls. Parking is available nearby.

Things to Do: Hike to the Waterfalls, visit seven coloured earth and Black river gorges national park. Drink some Chamarel coffee, if you have the time.

2. Alexandra Falls

Alexandra Falls is one of the most famous waterfalls in Mauritius, located inside the Black River Gorges National Park. The multi-tiered waterfall falls down from a height of 30 metres and creates a shallow pool below. There are several picnic tables and benches dotted at the base of the falls. Toilets and changing rooms are also available here along with ample parking space. To get the best view of this stunning waterfall in Mauritius, hike up to the Alexandra Falls Viewpoint. The sensational view almost looks like two calm white strips of water gushing down the rocky terrain accompanied by a heavenly backdrop.

Things to Do: Go hiking or trekking, and try some delicious Chinese guava during the season.

3. Tamarind Falls

Another waterfall located inside the Block River Gorge National Park, the Tamarind Falls is a series of seven waterfalls with multiple spots from where you can jump down into the deep pool below, making it a haven for adventure enthusiasts. There are two tours on offer for tourists: a full day hike and a half-day hike, with the full-day hike being the most opted for. The hikes start at the base of the canyon of Tamarind Falls. It is recommended to hire a professional guide for the hike. 

Things to Do: Hiking, canoeing, swimming, trekking.

4. Eureka Falls

The Eureka falls is located in the colonial Eureka Mansion complex in Moka village. The stunning waterfall is hidden behind the mansion in the tropical green forests, cascading in a deep pool. The way to the falls is marked "Waterfall 1, 2 and 3". While the first and the second waterfalls are comparatively smaller, the third waterfall comprises two falls with a smaller one in the middle. The surrounding region at the foot of the waterfall has a vibrant ambience with various animal sounds. Enjoy the splendid view of the Eureka Falls from the riverbank or go for a swim and explore the aquatic plants and marine life.

5. Grand River South East (GRSE) Waterfall

 Grand River South East (GRSE) Waterfall

The Grand River South East Falls of GRSE Falls is located on the way to the popular Ile Aux Cerfs island and is one of the famous waterfalls in Mauritius. The journey to the falls in a kayak or a speedboat through the Grand River South East is what attracts the most crowd. The scenery is stunning with turquoise blue water turning into greenish water, surrounded by verdant trees. Diving from the rocks at the top of the waterfall, swimming, canoeing and hiking are some popular things to do at GRSE waterfall. You might also spot some monkeys. The best time to visit is between January and March, after the rainy season.

6. Exil Waterfalls

The Exil Waterfalls in Mauritius is located on the fringes of the Combo forest in the southernmost part. It emerges from the Savannah River in the canyon and is surrounded by a tropical forest. The Exil waterfall is an ideal combination of picture-perfect-peacefulness and adventure activities like bungee-jumping, abseiling and swimming. During monsoons, the water levels increase exponentially transforming the whole canyon into an aquatic kingdom; the water level is pretty moderate throughout the year otherwise. Excluding the Exil, the canyon also showcases two other waterfalls - Leon with a 20-meter drop and Cascade Cecile with a 45-meter drop. 

Things to Do: canoeing, rock climbing, hiking, mountain climbing.

7. Rochester Falls

The Rochester Falls, located in the Savanne district, is famous as the widest waterfall in Mauritius. It is set in an isolated location filled with wild greenery and distinctive rocky cliffs forming rectangular flank rocks. The waterfall cascades down the layered terrain from a height of 10 meters and forms a beautiful pond below which is popular as a picnic spot. The best time to visit the Rochester Falls is during the dry season when you can swim. The path to the fall is a little muddy and slippery, so hiking shoes are recommended.

8. Underwater Waterfall

A spectacular illusion, the underwater waterfall of Mauritius is located off the coast of Le Morne Brabant. The scene is an illusion, created by sand and silt on the ocean floor, that runs off in a way as if the water is pouring down. It also looks as if the entire island is being sucked down a massive drain. Though the waters look beautiful from the shore, seeing this view requires a helicopter ride. Aerial shots create the most stunning and visually stimulating appeal. There are many set up for this sole purpose in Mauritius.
